Why does my Accord suddenly ask me for the code?Īs mentioned above, all radios are protected by a code. If you’re not a thief but still need the code for your radio, here’s how to do it. Screen will give choices- hit "unit check" then "Navi ECU" and there will be the serial number you need in order to get code.To reduce the temptation for thieves, all radios in 2003 Honda Accord cars are protected with a 4-digit activation code. When screen says enter code push the map,menu,cancel buttons all together at same time for about 10 seconds. Thank God for you tube- here is what you do if your navi needs code. Called Honda and they were no help (said I needed to locate the serial # first which was hard to find). I reconnected it and lo and behold the dvd is working again yeah! I had to reenter the radio code which I had BUT THEN.new problem.now the Navi needed a code (which I didn't have). I left the negative side disconnected for about an hour. I went to disconnect the battery and for the life of me could only disconnect the negative side. Honda wanted to charge me a diagnostic fee so I decided to do research. I drove back and they reset the code for uple months later I realized the dvd was no longer working. So thankful for these boards! I had a battery replaced and when I left the shop the radio wasn't working. There are two codes- one for radio and one for navi- I have a great and easy way to find the serial # for navi: This worked for me and it was quick and easy. If not, pull the passenger side fuse (on the right side below the glove compartment), and Code should appear. If Code appears, punch in the number and you're set. They will want your address & phone number to verify you're the owner. It's not the first thing you see, it's about halfway back, but it plainly says Serial Number.įifth, write it down, get your VIN # and call 1-80. I had to move the gearshift lever once to move the cover up over it.įourth, gently pull out the radio and find the serial number on top. Just maneuver the cover around so you can reach each screw. A medium sized Phillips screwdriver does it, a long handle helps. Third, unscrew the 4 silver screws, 2 on each side of the radio. I didn't remove the connectors, I just gently pulled the cover and moved it around so that I could access the radio mount screws. The cover pulls off fairly easily (there are 12 clips around the edges), and then it is attached by the wires connected to the climate control knobs. You can put your hand in beside the gear lever and pull, you can also pry off the cover of the blank space on the left side of the dash cover and use that space to pull to pull off the cover. Do this by prying off the tiny cover on top of the steering wheel, and pushing your key in the slot to release the gear lock. In case you missed the instructions, here's what I did. Dealer (First Texas Honda) offered to charge me $150 to get the code-pah! So, I bravely followed instructions posted in various places and had my code my 2002 Odyssey in less than 15 minutes-including the time it took to call Honda and get the code! I needed my radio code, couldn't find the Anti-Theft Card, 1 & 6 didn't work. Ignore the U and L write down the eight digits.that's the unit's serial number! The second displays an L and last four digits. The first displays a U and the first four digits, Now switch on the radio and you can toggle between two screens, Press and hold the the 1 and 6 preset buttons on the radio, What they don't want you to know is that it can also be checked electronically WITHOUT removing it from the dash, so they can charge you labor! The dealer will tell you they need to remove the unit from the dash to check the serial #. The serial # for the radio can be found on the unit itself by removing it from the dash. Do NOT check the serial # on the nav display unit in the dash as this will not have a code associated with it! This is the unit under the driver's seat where you insert the nav dvd. Note: For recovering a lost nav code, you will need the serial # of the nav unit. However they may tell you to call the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. In Canada, you can call Honda Canada at 1-88. In the US you can call Honda USA at 1-80 and speak to a Honda rep. Honda Radio and Nav Code Retrieval Website If you bought the vehicle used, then you will have to call them. You will need the vehicle's VIN, the radio or nav serial # and verification of ownership. It's surprising how many current owners don't know how/where to find lost codes or how many digits they are!įor lost radio (5 digit) or nav codes (4 digit) you can go to Honda's website to retrieve codes. I had a difficult time finding this info anywhere especially being new to Honda, so I will post it here as it may help others in future.
